The snow is terrible this year, so instead of snowboarding and skiing we have spent most of our winter weekends smacking picks and axes into ice. On my birthday, this trend continued and Darren, Joe, Nathan, Reed, Stephanie, and I tackled a few routes at pump house (or is it fire house? Some house) in Vail. I actually would have joined my brother-in-law and other old pals on the slopes except that my pass wasn't valid because of the holiday weekend. But they all joined us in the evening for my birthday feast of Old Forge Pizza, carrot birthday cake, and a healthy heap of football. We got back from the ice to Joe's house just in time to see the final few minutes of the 49ers game against the Saints. Wow, that was one of the best endings I have ever seen. Darren and I leapt into each other's arms in exuberant glee when the final touchdown was completed.
Unfortunately we were surrounded by Bronco's fans which were not so pleased with the pounding they took. I was sad too, as, I have to admit, Tebow fever has taken a bit over our household as well. But overall it was a joyous birthday and we spent a sunny Sunday swooshing down Vail's slopes.
