Jimmy Jet And His TV Set

I'll tell you the story of Jimmy Jet --
And you know what I tell you is true.
He loved to watch his TV set
Almost as much as you.

He watched all day, he watched all night
Till he grew pale and lean,
From "The Early Show" to "The Late Late Show"
And all the shows between.

He watched till his eyes were frozen wide,
And his bottom grew into his chair.
And his chin turned into a tuning dial,
And antennae grew out of his hair.

And his brains turned into TV tubes,
And his face to a TV screen.
And two knobs saying "VERT." and "HORIZ."
Grew where his ears had been.

And he grew a plug that looked like a tail
So we plugged in little Jim.
And now instead of him watching TV
We all sit around and watch him.

So much for my womanly mystery

What I would put in my "About Me" section if I wanted ABSOLUTELY no mystery about me. By posting this in blog form I am an open book that's not glaring in people's eyes saying READ ME, READ ME!!! Actually, I don't know why I am posting this. I think writing it just helped me identify for myself what is important to me (the therapy and usefulness of writing things down). In other words, it's very self-centered. But, I am posting it anyways.

I am an explorer of the woods and city. I love rock-climbing, kayaking and SCUBA diving, but I also love a good theatrical play, music festival, foreign film, and symphony. When I travel, I like to see natural beauty and manmade beauty. I like to involve myself deeply in both--feel the wave of the ocean and see Van Gogh's thick, blue paint strokes.

I love to learn. I think education is more than just a stepping stone. And I believe it should go beyond formal schooling.

I hate when I squander time (i.e. watching pointless television).

I love when passionate people show me what they love, even if it's not my own. I love to analyze life, literature, and music--a good, deep conversation brings me life. But I am often quirky and laidback.

I am happy to follow others, if I trust their leadership. Otherwise I usually don't mind being a leader.

I am a drifter on the this earth and love diversity and new experiences. I see value in travel (and not just to resorts where one doesn't see the true country)--getting out of one's comfortable daily life and culture--in order to learn something or help others. But I value the unchanging roots of my family, friends, God, and Sabbath. I believe in unshakeable values and the need to invest in them.

I love group collaboration for a common noble goal. I believe in the need for community, for support of those whom we love as well as those with whom we may not completely identify.

I have many faults, but I am trying to overcome them. I've made many mistakes, but I'm trying not to let them negatively affect my present. I believe we have a choice about which direction we live life. I believe life takes work. We may not always be living in ideal circumstances, but we have a choice to live the greatest life we can while we are in them.

Things I've learned this year...besides redox equations

From observing physical therapy: "If you don't write it down, it's like it never happened."

Psychology: Classical conditioning can make us associate a neutral stimulus with a normal response to something. Maybe that is why when I hang out with guys who are sick, things never work out.

Working at the Challenge Course, writing papers, QB-ing for football: Be confident and do the best you can. Don't stress out too much because if you do, people start to doubt and disrespect you.

Difficult classes: It pays to use the planner. A semester is a short period of time. God still loves us!

One must always make sacrifices. One must focus on what he or she least desires to sacrifice and go with that.
