We didn't have much time to venture around Bangkok before heading to the airport, so we just visited the local Wat near our hotel. I found it interesting because right outside of the temple was a huge market place where a worshipper could buy all their worship wares--incense, flowers, bottles of Fanta...stuff like that.

The different stances of Buddha

Darren fiddled with his Blackberry while we waited to fly to the Philippines and then on to Guam. I was able to get through all of Jane Eyre throughout the process. Bangkok airport was like a mall and we ate an international lunch of Greek food and smoothies. Manila is, on the other hand, perhaps the most boring international airport I've ever been in. The most interesting aspect is that there is no transfer hall. You just go to a desk, give up your passport to a lady who, then guides you and a few other passengers in single file up an elevator, past a door next to people going through customs, and then to another security check. We had a further security check at the gate right before boarding the airplane because of--we learned in line about it for the first time--the attempted terrorist attack in Detroit. Anyhoo, besides the weird security Darren and I did our best to entertain ourselves by playing cards, reading, and discovering the "delights" of fluffy mammon.
