Jess' Grad Sabbath Lunch
Bay to Breakers Jazzersize Style
I flew down early and stayed with my friend Kim and explored San Fran with her and her boyfriend Dannon.
The day of the race we were surrounded with naked people and flying tortillas! We started near the bay...
and jogged to the...

Possabilities Triathalon
I'd been thinking about doing a short triathalon at my school for many months, but by the time it was about to happen I hadn't trained at all. The morning of the race I was living a two minute ride from the starting line, but hadn't signed up or made up my mind. Darren came over early with his bike and convinced me I should just go for it. I'm glad I did because I really had a lot of fun and surprisingly did decently for the amount of training (um...zero) I had done. And especially since I've ridden a road bike about three times in my life. Darren couldn't believe when I told him that I'd kept the bike in one gear the entire race!
I had also been worried about the swimming portion. Swimming is only interesting to me if it is racing your friends or splashing around during some pool game. Doing laps are only for zoning out, which I don't normally like to do, especially if all I have to look at is a concrete floor. Thankfully this tri's swimming portion was SUPER short and was more like water jogging because there were so many people, that it was all one could do.

"I read the news today..."
I am feeling extremely disturbed by all the recent news stories about abused women. I feel depressed and aghast by all that is happening. I'm reminded how awful situations can become here on earth, and honestly I feel a little hopeless. Like many, I sporadically question how events like those in Austria and Texas are allowed to occur. Sin is the answer, but still I don't think I truly understand. It's tempting to despair.
And yet happiness is all around me. I know it in my own life, and I see it in the genuine smiles of those sitting in coffee shops, playing in the park, and even learning in class. I cannot help but be disgusted by what is going on. And maybe that is okay; I shouldn't be callous.
I've lived long enough and seen plenty enough to know that I'm going to encounter craziness in the future. I think in my current professional tract I'm going to see a lot of sad situations. Maybe all one can do is not be blind, nor so depressed by the crap that we do nothing. One has to be aware and helpful enough to aid others obtain a happier life…even in small ways. That is my aim for therapy. Only prayer will make that aim successful, because honestly sometimes this world makes me nauseous.
