Florence: Italy 2011

Travel notes: early train to Florence, ATM didn't work so we freaked out, saw scroll church, donated to drug prevention program (with lady smoking), went to church with monk room paintings done by monks, snuck pictures, and saw Savonarola's (bad monk) quarters, tried more ATMs, went to bank, called, saw duomo, went to Bargello museum (old police station with Donatello's David) Uffizi museum with Rick Steve's audio guide: saw Boticelli's Venus and Spring, Tititian's naked chick, Ponte Vecchio bridge through window,  the Bacchus painting, Martin Luther painting, Durher paintings of Adam and Eve, etc. and lots of sculptures; went to Academia and saw Michaelangelo's David, snuck pictures, saw slaves and student sculptures (with help of Rick Steve's audio guide); went to baptistry with doors, duomo museum with anorexic Mary Magdalene and Michaleangelo La Pieta, ate supper at square with music, ATM worked!, got gelatto again ("What's Puffi?"...Puffi is Italian for Smurf.  "It's just a child's flavor with sugar and color."), train to Ravenna, good directions to house, not a lot of people out

The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore (aka The Duomo) with Brunelleschi's dome (the biggest), and Giotto's bell tower and Ghiberti's baptistry doors nearby.
